🌱Your First Month in Taiwan: Checklist

First week

• Save these important numbers: 1955 (labor advice and complaints, free, 24 hours, English available), 110 (police), 119 (ambulance and fire)
• Save the name, address and phone number of your employer and your agency
• Take photos of your passport, visa and work contract, and keep them somewhere safe
• Make sure you have a copy of your work contract in a language you understand
• Ask your agency or employer when your ARC (居留證, residence permit card) will be ready

Weeks 2–4

• Receive your ARC, then check the name, passport number and expiry date
• Ask your employer or agency about your health insurance card (健保卡)
• Buy a Taiwan SIM card / phone number with your passport or ARC
• Check your first pay slip (薪資單): basic pay, deductions and the amount you receive. The meaning of the words is in Bills & Documents
• Write down your days off according to your contract

Sending money home

Send money only through a licensed bank or an official remittance company. Avoid informal money-transfer services: if money goes missing, it is very hard to fix.
